Taking a cue from Gucci and Yves St. Laurent, Calvin Klein puts forward actress Rooney Mara in a highly stylized, black-and-white, music-driven video-advert for their ‘Downtown’ fragrance.
With these types of video-adverts, it’s always an equal combination of two things: An uber-cool, fun and flirty caberet-style track, and the actress or model who propels the advert to the top of the shopper-girl charts. Choosing Rooney Mara is fabulous choice, but it seems the proverbial beat was missed to make a hit video-advert because of the the ho-hum, so-so track ‘Runaway’ by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Does the CK video-ad match up to its designer counterparts?
To compare, check out the ultra chic Gucci ‘Forever Now’ campaign with Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco, and YSL’s super-suave-super-fun ‘Baby Doll’ with fashion model, and all around It Girl, Cara Delevingne.
It’s not Chanel…but I still like it. Next time I’m at Macy’s I will stop and try this fragrance…Great writing on this product from the Cherie Bomb!
