The 2013 Met Gala was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6 in New York City and the theme was “PUNK: Chaos To Couture”. Rooney Mara not only got the memo, but she clearly understood it. This year’s gala gave a grand opportunity to get creative with couture by adding an edgy punk theme that — at the same time — needed to remain elegant.
The annual Costume Institute Gala is for pure showmanship; It’s a time to really bring your fashion A-game and work it. Anne Hathaway, for example, looked great … because she looked “punk” like she was supposed to – she even bleached her hair! But so, so, so many guests completely ignored the punk theme and dressed in their per-usual-per yawn, per-why-did-you-even-come? attire.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s people made a feeble attempt to explain her uptight, bubblegum pink, Blaine-Trump style, Mayflower socialite dress, stating that it was, in fact, punk because it was “rebellious” and going against the invitation’s request for edgy attire. Seriously, Gywneth? Just stop.
People who showed up in traditional ball gowns are the same people who show up at Halloween parties without a costume. Not cool and so VERY boring.

FYI: Rooney is dressed head to toe in Givenchy with Jennifer Meyer and Carrie Hoffman rings.
